30th Anniversary re-release of Alex Cox’s SID & NANCY New restoration supervised by cinematographer Roger Deakins
To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of this event and the beginning of 'Punk', STUDIOCANAL in association with the Independent Cinema Office will be releasing the restored SID & NANCY at cinemas from 5th August marking its own 30thAnniversary, followed by EST release on 22ndAugust and a new special-edition DVD/Blu-ray released on 29th August on the Vintage Classics label from STUDIOCANAL.
Arguably one of the most iconic figures of the Punk-era was Sid Vicious. He joined The Sex Pistols in 1977 (replacing Glenn Matlock as bass guitarist) and in his performances and personal life he embodied the hardcore punk-personality taking the vulgarity and nihilism inherent in the music to its ultimate extreme.
In 1986, Alex Cox (Repo Man, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas) co-wrote and directed SID & NANCY, a vivid and shocking portrait of the mutually destructive drug-and-sex filled relationship between Sid Vicious and his American girlfriend Nancy Spungen. The film embodied the noise and fury of Punk while at the same time revealing the intimate and heart-breaking relationship between two lost souls stuck in a situation that they couldn't handle.
It's 1977 and The Sex Pistols have taken the music world by storm with lead singer Johnny Rotten (Andrew Schofield) and bass guitarist Sid Vicious (Gary Oldman – Tinker, Tailor Soldier Spy, The Dark Knight) enjoying all the spoils that fame and money have to offer. Vicious embarks on a relationship with an American groupie – Nancy (Chloe Webb – Shameless) - who has come to London to pursue him but the couple's increasing drug use frays relationships with Johnny and the rest of the band.
With Nancy in tow, The Sex Pistols embark on a chaotic tour US tour which ends in disaster with the band breaking up. Vicious attempts to start a solo career, with Nancy as his manager, but by now both are dangerously addicted to heroin. The two continue in a downward, destructive spiral until, in October 1978 at the Chelsea Hotel in New York, Nancy is found stabbed with Sid lying prostrate at her side. Arrested and accused of murder, he dies of an overdose before his trial.
With an original soundtrack featuring punk and post-punk artists such as Joe Strummer (The Clash), and The Pogues, SID & NANCY is one of the defining films of the punk era and is available to buy for the first time as a UK Blu-ray from 29thAugust (also on DVD). The 30th Anniversary Vintage Classics DVD/Blu-ray special edition of SID & NANCY features the restored film with colour correction approved by cinematographer Roger Deakins (Hail Caesar, Sicario, No Country For Old Men, The Shawshank Redemption) and a host of new special features

A powerful and engaging British drama, THE VIOLATORS is the directorial debut of acclaimed writer Helen Walsh, who also wrote the film, following her award-winning work on novels including best-sellers The Lemon Grove, Once Upon A Time In England and Brass. The cast is led by rising stars Lauren McQueen (The Mill,Ordinary Lies) and Brogan Ellis (Waterloo Road) alongside Stephen Lord (Penny Dreadful,Shameless, Route Irish), Liam Ainsworth (Kajaki), Derek Barr (Pride) and newcomer Callum King Chadwick.
After testifying against her abusive father, Shelly (McQueen), finds herself rehoused on a sink estate she can barely call home. A petty thief, Shelly spends her days roaming the estate and docklands in search of opportunities. When she attracts the attention of estate loan shark and groomer, Mikey Finnegan (Lord), Shelly finds herself thrust under the watchful gaze of a mysterious stranger, Rachel (Ellis). As Shelly's relationship with Mikey develops, so does Rachel's fixation with Shelly. The shock-revelation that Shelly's father is to be given early parole forces Shelly to make a decision that will alter the fates of all three of them forever.
Set amid the desolate beauty of a post-industrial wasteland, THE VIOLATORS is a meditation on the meaning of home, and the potency and fragility of young girls' sexuality.
Delivering terrifically assured lead performances are feature-film newcomers LAUREN MCQUEEN and BROGAN ELLIS in the lead roles of Shelley and Rachel. A year before filming began, the filmmakers spotted Lauren McQueen in the TV drama Good Cop and invited her to work-shop some of the scenes from the script. They were blown away by the moving and mature performance the then 16-year old Lauren gave, and knew they had found their leading lady. Lauren got the bug for acting during the filming and has continued with her next feature Carolyn Saunders' THE WASTING to be released later this year. Local actress Brogan Ellis had similarly impressed writer/director Helen Walsh and executive producer Kevin Sampson with her transgender role in WATERLOO ROAD, and was their top choice for the supporting female role of Rachel.
HELEN WALSH was born in Warrington in 1976, and her first novel Brass, about a female sex addict, was the recipient of a Betty Trask Award and published to great acclaim around the world. Her second novel, Once Upon A Time In England, won the Somerset Maugham Prize. She has written four novels to date, all of which have been published internationally. The Lemon Grove, her most recent, was a critically acclaimed best-seller. All of her work touches upon the complexities and ambiguities of female sexuality. THE VIOLATORS marks her debut feature film as writer/director and is produced by Red Union Films, with the support of the BFI Film Fund.

A trio of outrageous fairy tales all connected within an unseemly kingdom. Like every fairy tale there are mythical beasts, royal families and magical powers. Tale of Tales consists of a Queen desperate to have a child that she is willing to sacrifice anything, a King that marries his daughter off to an ogre and a pair of sisters going to extreme lengths to be youthful again. Each of the three different fairytales are filled with insanity, darkness and pure surrealism. Unlike regular fairy tales Tale Of Tales doesn't have a happily ever after, rather just an 'after'.
Into the Woods
A modern twist on the classic fairy tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel all tied together. A baker and his wife cursed by the witch next door leaving them unable to have a child they greatly want. To undo the curse they embark on a journey to gather objects requested by the witch to break the curse. On their endeavours they encounter Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood and Jack and the bean stalk. Everyone's wishes are granted, but with any wish or desire comes consequences and disaster.
A Series Of Unfortunate Events
A series focused on three siblings, the Baudelaire orphans. Right off the bat it is said that very few positive things happen to the children, misfortune seems to follow them and it is not a story with a happy ending. The children become orphans after their parents are killed in a fire in their family home and are sent to live with a distant relative Count Olaf. The series of unfortunate events stems from Count Olaf's many attempts to kill the children in order to get his hands on the Baudelaire family fortune.
The Little Mermaid
Written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1836 the original story is not like the Disney happily- ever-after version you are most likely familiar with. The similar theme of love is present in both versions but the original is a gruesome and depressing story about self-sacrifice. A mermaid meets a prince and falls in love after she saves him from drowning. Madly in love with the prince the young mermaid visits a sea witch and trades her voice for a pair of legs. Here's the twist...she will have legs but it will feel like she's waking on jagged shards of glass and will turn into sea foam if the prince rejects her. Despite these drastic circumstances she willingly trades her mermaid tail for a pair of legs. Spoiler alert, the prince rejects her and the mermaid throws herself into the sea thus turning into sea foam and dying.
Unlike Disney's version the original story of Sleeping Beauty is not quite so sincere. The beauty is woken with an innocent kiss in the story line that most people know. In the original tale the waking of the beauty is not so innocent but rather vulgar, the prince sees her asleep and rapes her. This in does not wake the beauty and nine months later she gives birth while she is still asleep. What wakes her in the original tale is the sucking of her finger by her new born child. She wakes up to find herself a rape victim and a mother.
