PETROV'S FLU - New UK Poster

A deadpan, hallucinatory romp through post-Soviet Russia, based on the novel The Petrovs In and Around the Flu by Alexey Salnikov, the film details a surreal and fantastic day in the life of a comic book artist and his family. It won the prestigious CTS Artist award at this year’s Cannes Film festival, for Vladislav Opelyants' virtuoso cinematography and was nominated for the Palme d’Or. The film was also selected to play in the ‘Dare’ section of this year’s BFI London Film Festival.

Director Serebrennikov’s film The Student (2016) competed for the Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to win the Francois Chalais prize. His previous film, Leto (2018) was part of the main Competition at Cannes and was awarded the ‘personal Palme d’Or’ by Le Figaro magazine. He wrote Petrov’s Flu while he was under house arrest in Russia.

The result is a very crazy, very Russian and an extremely violent and unique experience that is in turns shocking and disturbing, explicit, touching and visually stunning, appealing to fans of everything from sci-fi, action to provocative arthouse. A weird, wild ride into a dark night of the soul, featuring random acts of insanity, aliens, erotically-charged demonic librarians, a pair of singing dentures and the perils of public transport - imagine Terry Gilliam and Gasper Noe collaborating to update a Gogol short story and you’re halfway there.

Synopsis: With the city in the throes of a flu epidemic, the Petrov family struggles through yet another day in a country where the past is never past, the present is a booze-fueled, icy fever dream of violence and tenderness, and where - beneath layers of the ordinary - things turn out to be quite extraordinary.

A short film that is light on laughs (despite trying really hard to be funny) but heavy on action.

Pointless plot and lackluster ending left me feeling unsatisfied, this film is a quick cash in. No more, no less.

Sky today released the official trailer for Last Train to Christmas, coming to Sky Cinema and streaming service NOW from 18 December.

Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman - UK Release Date Announced

The Movie Partnership have today confirmed that the upcoming crime thriller Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman will be released in the UK from 6th December across iTunes, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Sky.

Chad Michael Murray, best known for his roles in One Tree Hill and more recently Riverdale & Marvel's Agent Carter will play the notorious serial killer alongside horror icon Lin Shaye (Critters, Insidous film series) playing Bundy's mother, as well as Holland Roden (Teen Wolf) and Jake Hays who makes his feature length film debut.

Notorious killer, Ted Bundy (Chad Michael Murray), stalks the highways of gritty 1970s America looking for his next victim. Memoria - Poster and Trailer - Starring Tilda Swinton

 

MEMORIA - Jan 14 in UK cinemas.

Winner of the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and nominated for the Palme d’Or, Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton (The French Dispatch, The Souvenir) stars in Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s meditative exploration of memory and the human condition. The Guardian describes the film as “slow cinema that decelerates your heartbeat”, saying the actress and director make a “dream team”. 

It’s a film that starts with a literal bang, as Swinton embarks on a lyrical and profound journey into the senses that Indiewire describes as “a transfixing deep-dive into the profound challenges of relating to people and places”. The journey leads to an unexpected and extraordinary revelation where, as the actress herself explains, “all the wisdom in the world is being revealed to this person at this moment”.

Synopsis: Visiting her sister in Bogota, Jessica (Tilda Swinton) is awoken by a loud bang, audible only to her. Restless and disoriented, she roams the city in search of an explanation for the mysterious sound, becoming immersed in the aural richness around her – whispers in a hospital room, sound effects playing in an editing studio, indiscreet noises from a city square. Despite being present throughout, Jessica’s motives remain opaque and her encounters enigmatic. Soon she begins to confront the unsettling sights and sounds that call her identity into question.

Based on the best-selling novel, Grand Mal/ Quake: A Novel, by Audur Jonsdóttir, which was nominated for the Icelandic Literary prize and picked out by Toronto International Film Festival as one of their 2021 Industry Selects, Quake stars Anita Briem (Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Minister), Edda Björgvinsdóttir (Under the tree, The Valhalla Murders) and is written and directed by Tinna Hrafnsdóttir (Margrete - Queen of the North, Valhalla Murders, The Minister), and produced by Hlín Jóhannesdóttir of Ursus Parvus.

Quake follows Saga (Briem), a single mother in her late thirties, who gets hit by a fierce epileptic attack walking in a public park with her six-year-old son resulting in a total memory loss. Afraid of being considered unable to take care of her son, Saga attempts to hide her state from others and occupies herself digging for the answers she needs. As she struggles to gather bits and pieces from her forgotten life, repressed memories that Saga unconsciously blocked as a child suddenly start to come back, revealing a painful truth about herself and the past.

Quake is a shocking and revelatory exploration of the blurred lines between fact and fiction, reality and imagination, and where mother ends and child begins.

Quake will have its World Premiere at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival on November 20th and be released in Iceland in January 2022.

It was the 28th novel in the Discworld ® series, but the first written for children. The Amazing Maurice is a lively and entertaining adventure inspired by the German fairy tale about the Pied Piper of Hamelin and a parody of the folk tale genre. Pratchett won the annual Carnegie Medal for the book – children's literature's highest award. Despite many other awards, honorary degrees and the knighthood that followed, Sir Terry Pratchett always emphasised that this was the award of which he was most proud.

The Amazing Maurice, a Sky Original will be released on Sky Cinema in 2022. The film will also be available on streaming service NOW via the Sky Cinema Membership.
