TRAILER : Hollywood Casting Couch exposed in “Rocking the Couch”

One of the most important releases of the year, ROCKING THE COUCH, now available On Demand from Avail Films.

Hollywood titans, Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby, have been brought to their knees by the #MeToo movement. But they did not invent Casting Couch. The term casting couch has existed for decades. But in 1992, a case against talent agent, Wallace Kaye, was brought to court by 12 unknown actresses, who braved the loss of their careers, their privacy, and their Hollywood dreams. They stepped forward, despite the advice of their union, and brought the case to the police. Against all odds, they won, and no one listened.

This documentary explores the case and asks, “Why didn’t we hear about this?” More importantly, why didn’t Hollywood learn from this case? For, if they had, maybe the Cosbys and the Weinsteins would have learned as well, and these sexual exploitations could have been prevented.

“Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.”

From writer/director Minh Collins, produced by Andrea Evans, Minh Collins, and Jerry Sommer, and starring Lauren Anastasi-Peter, Ikon Barenbolm, Alana Crow, Jennifer Durst, Tiffani Fest and Sadie Katz, ROCKING THE COUCH is now available on Amazon US and Amazon UK.

First poster revealed for Western-horror “Spirit Reckoning" from Terror Tales director Jimmy Lee Combs

Wild west horror “Spirit Reckoning”, by writer-director Jimmy Lee Combs and Heart and Fire Productions, has unveiled the first poster, teasing the tone of the upcoming film.

“Spirit Reckoning”, which is due to lens later this year, takes place in circa 1875, and tells the story of Sam Conley, a farmer with a wicked gambling addiction trying to make ends meet for his family. Upon returning home, Sam is killed by some petty outlaws alongside his wife and child. Competition: Win World On A Wire - Limited Edition Box Set [Blu-ray]

World On A Wire - Limited Edition Box Set is released on 18th of February on Bluray

And to celebrate we have a great competition for you and 1 to give away.

Synopsis
Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s dystopian sci-fi epic World on a Wire was way ahead of its time, with fascinating themes that would later be explored in films such as The Matrix, Bladerunner, and TV series like Westworld. Now this hugely influential classic arrives as a stunningly restored Limited Edition Blu-ray Box Set from Second Sight on 18 Feb, with a host of outstanding new special features and a 50- page booklet.

Originally created for TV by the radical and often controversial filmmaker, it centres around Simulacron 1, a highly advanced project designed to elevate conventional computer technology to a new level by creating a virtual reality, inhabited by computer generated people or ‘identity units’. When the head of the project dies mysteriously, Dr Stiller (Klaus Löwitsch – Firefox, Cross of Iron) becomes his successor. As the new doctor begins to probe deeper, the line between the real and virtual worlds become increasingly blurred and his own existence comes into question.

Also starring Barbara Valentin (Body in the Web, Our Man in Jamaica) and Mascha Rabben (Salome, The Sensuous Three), Fassbinder’s science fiction masterpiece has a rare and well-deserved 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Slant Magazine says it’s ‘a fascinating and dynamic film, packed with intriguing ideas and soaked in a moody ambience,’ exploring themes as relevant as ever to our swiftly technologically advancing world.

This new restoration, supervised by The Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation and cinematographer Michael Ballhaus (Goodfellas, The Departed), comes 45 years after its initial release and still pushes audiences to question the world around them.

Interview with Kevin O’Brien

After losing his wife and counselling practice, the only thing 32-year-old Dave Hopper has going for himself is his part-time professorship at his alma mater, a growing Christian college. And the only reason he even got that job was because his previous professor, now ambitious dean, pulled a few strings.

The dean’s plans for growth hit a snag when the property he wants to develop has been promised to a gay support group – which has plans to open an LGBT homeless teen shelter if they can raise the money in time. The dean is forced to take drastic measures, offering Dave his dream job, but he only gets it if he goes undercover in the group and stops them from raising the funds needed to buy the property.

Dave reluctantly agrees, and for the first time, is met face-to-face with the community he has been counselling against his entire career. The awkward and emotional experiences that follow lead Dave on a journey of truth, revealing that life and love are not as black and white as he first thought.
That’s the plot of the new film AT THE END OF THE DAY, releasing Feb 26 on VOD. We speak to the film’s writer-director Kevin O’Brien.

How did the film come about, sir?

Hustle. Nonstop hustle. Along with a splash of luck, and collaboration with an incredibly talented cast and crew. The story grew out of my own faith journey. As I grew older, I met some fabulous people and began to gain a deeper understanding of love and faith. This evolution compelled me to help others see the world with such beauty, and this story came out of that desire.

Tell us about the script – was it inspired by anything in particular?

The biggest inspirations from the film came from the relationships with my friends and members of our local PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Support Group. I had so many stories and personalities to pull from. I was constantly impressed by the generosity and faith of the LGBTQ community, especially considering how many within the Church has caused them harm.

How similar a film to Boy Erased is it? They both would seem to have their common threads…

Yes, both films explore the damage that religion has cause so many in the LGBTQ community. I would say they are rather different in tone. Boy Erased is a true story, whereas At the End of the Day is fictional, with a much lighter, comedic tone. Our story follows a conservative, Christian professor, who begins to ask questions he’s not supposed to ask.

Are any of the characters based on yourself?

Not particularly. While the lead character’s internal journey was the same as mine, the actual plot is fictional. However, I had to ask many of the same questions, and build relationships with many of the same people, as Dave did. It’s only through those relationships that we can grow.

How tough is it for not only you as a filmmaker, but for your cast, to shoot some of those heavier scenes?

Some of them were rather emotionally draining. Certainly, more-so for the actors. They were brilliant and beautiful and gave 100% every take. I often felt like it was my job to stay out of their way and not screw them up.

How did you come down from those heavy scenes at the end of the day?

Well, most of the time the schedule was so tight that there wasn’t enough space to process those during production. One particular scene, where we hear the stories of 4 youth who faced religious rejection, was certainly the most powerful and emotional. We all needed some time to sit in that heaviness, and honor the courage of those youth.

How did you find the right male lead?

I think I got crazy lucky! Stephen found us through a Facebook post for the role, and it was getting close to the beginning of production. Stephen was really the first audition that I felt really “got” Dave, and I think that’s confirmed by the reactions from the audience. Stephen was able to be sympathetic even though he was portraying a less-than-ideal character.

When did you watch your first cut?  Have to lose much in the editing room?

Considering I was also the editor on this movie, I saw the first cut as it was put together. But that first time I watched the movie all the way through was incredibly magical. Granted, it was way too long, and didn’t have any music - but we had an actual movie! The final cut is about 35 minutes shorter than that first cut, and the movie is certainly better because of it.

What’s the message behind this movie?

Ultimately, the message is to listen to and honor the lived experiences of others. The movie specifically deals with the topic of the LGBTQ community and people of faith, but it’s also bigger than that. In general, it’s hard for humans to stop our busy lives and try to understand someone else’s journey, but that hard work is exactly what we need to bring unity.

JUAN ANTIN’S CESAR AWARD NOMINATED ANIMATED FEATURE FILM PACHAMAMA TO DEBUT ON NETFLIX IN JUNE 2019

Hollywood, CA - February 7, 2019 - Netflix today announced that writer-director Juan Antin’s (Mercano the Martian) Cesar Award nominated animated feature film Pachamama, a hybrid animation adventure film about a young boy living in a remote village in the Andes Mountains, will debut in June of 2019. The film is produced by Academy-Award nominee Didier Brunner (The Old Lady and the Pigeons, Kirikou and the Sorceress, The Triplets of Belleville, The Secret of Kells and Ernest and Celestine).

Additionally, Damien Brunner (Folivari), Olivier de Bannes (O2B Films), Pierre Urbain (Doghouse Films) and Brice Garnier (Kaïbou Productions) served as producers with Blue Spirit Animation and Haut et Court as co-producers. Bannes, Patricia Valeix and Nathalie Hertzberg served as co-writers alongside Antin, with the participation of Christophe Poujol, Jean-Marc Pannetier, Christine Ponzevera and Isabelle Blanchard.

Pachamama is a 2019 Cesar Award nominee for Best Animated Feature, selected by The Academy of Cinema Arts & Sciences in France. Winners will be announced at the 44th Cesar Awards ceremony on February 22nd.

The film features an original score by Pierre Hamon, recorded with thousand-year old pre-columbian instruments, and the song Somos la Nueva Tierra is written by Antin and arranged by Hamon and Marc Hazart. The graphic creation is by Antin and Maria Hellemeyer.

Pachamama follows Tepulpaï, a mischievous 10-year-old who dreams of becoming a shaman. As the villagers are gathering to make an offering to their great spirit Pachamama, the ceremony is disrupted by an Incan overlord who confiscates the town’s golden statue. Tepulpaï sees the chance to show his mettle and sets off to recapture the irreplaceable treasure, joined (whether he likes it or not) by his friend Naira and her smart-talking pet llama. Together they make a journey across uncharted lands, full of unknown obstacles and dangers.

“Pachamama has been, for me, a very long journey, guided by a message that came like an echo from ancient times - a message of love, respect and gratitude to our cherished Earth. Thanks to Netflix, I am thrilled to share this awe-inspiring story with a global audience,” commented Antin.

Pachamama is set to play in the Opening Spotlight at the 22nd annual New York International Children’s Film Festival on February 24th, ahead of its June launch on Netflix. Simon Amstell's BENJAMIN - Trailer

In cinemas 15 March

The debut feature from the comedian, actor, writer and director Simon Amstell.

About to premiere his difficult second film 'No Self', Benjamin (Colin Morgan), a rising star filmmaker, has been too long in the edit. Unable to see the wood from the trees, he finds solace alone in his flat with tubs of ice cream and a cat for company.

On the eve of its premiere at the London Film Festival, encouraged by his friend Stephen (Joel Fry) and hard-partying publicist (Jessica Raine), Benjamin is introduced to a mesmeric French singer called Noah. As they journey through their version of the city, filled with vegan restaurants, comedy clubs and avant-garde dance performances, the pair slowly manoeuvre themselves and each other towards love. Boasting original music from James Righton (of the Klaxons), and great performances from its young cast, Simon Amstell's Benjamin is a bittersweet comedy about feeling isolated and struggling for connection.

Competition: Win The Boys In The Band on Blu-ray

The Boys In The Band is released on 11th of February on Bluray

And to celebrate we have a great competition for you and 3 Bluray copies to give away.

Synopsis
Groundbreaking queer cinema classic The Boys In The Band was one of director William Friedkin’s earliest works, and a hugely controversial film on its original 1970 release, dividing the gay community in the US and beyond. Now, years after it became notable not just for featuring an all-gay cast but as being the first mainstream movie to use the C word, making its UK Blu-ray debut courtesy of Second Sight.

Based on the seminal Broadway hit of the same name, playwright Mart Crowley adapted his own play for the big screen, creating a script full of acerbic speeches and cutting one liners for his cast of unforgettable characters. The original stage cast including Kenneth Nelson, Peter White and Leonard Frey all starred in the film, one that Friedkin rates as “one of the few films I've made that I can still watch”.

Famed for its caustic wit, savage putdowns and many expletives, the film follows a group of gay men celebrating one of their friend’s birthdays, amid much drunken backbiting and, as the drink flows, the evening descends even further…

The Boys in the Band Special Edition Blu-ray arrives complete with a raft of extras, including a commentary from Friedkin and writer Crowley, as well as features looking at the film, the play it was based on and its cultural impact and resonance in the years since it first caused controversy.

Released 50 years after its Broadway debut – a year before the Stonewall riots – The Boys in the Band still has the power to shock.
