IMAX Releases Exclusive First Man Art

In the riveting story of NASA’s historic mission to land a man on the moon starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle captured the breathtaking lunar sequences of the film with IMAX’s extremely high-resolution 2D film cameras… there is no better, more stunning way to experience this scene.

In addition to delivering crystal-clear images, the picture will expand in the lunar sequences by up to 26% more than standard screens, only in IMAX, allowing moviegoers to experience the film the way it was truly intended. Couple those awe-inspiring images on the biggest screen with IMAX’s heart-pounding, one-of-a-kind sound technology, and audiences will be fully immersed and feel like they are in this story.

On the heels of their six-time Academy Award®-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Written by Academy Award® winner Josh Singer (Spotlight), the drama is produced by Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars) through their Temple Hill Entertainment banner, alongside Chazelle and Gosling. Isaac Klausner (The Fault in Our Stars) executive produces. DreamWorks Pictures co-finances the film.

The IMAX release of First Man will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Wrestler John Hennigan takes on weird science in new clip from Strange Nature

This September, It’s man versus nature when wrestling superstar John Hennigan and acclaimed actor Stephen Tobolowsky (‘’Silicon Valley’’, ‘’Deadwood’’) play ‘leapfrog’ with mutated amphibians in Ojala Productions’ highly-anticipated eco-thriller Strange Nature, in theaters this fall.

Strange Nature leaps into theaters from Sep 22 (Los Angeles with other cities to follow).

Official Synopsis:
A children’s hiking group in rural Minnesota discover several live, mutated frogs along a pond.

In the same area, a single mother, Kim, and her 11-year-old son, Brody, have just moved in with her estranged father, Chuck. It’s not long before they too start witnessing strange occurrences including a disemboweled deer and the family dog’s deformed puppies.

As the fear rises the rumors begin to fly. Some blame the intimidating disfigured hermit father and daughter who live on a surrounding lake. Environmental science points to the water sources. Possibly causes are pesticides, parasites or both. As the chaos spreads it becomes clear that Chuck’s cabin is a hotspot ground zero for these mutations.

Trent, a grade school science teacher investigating the cases begins to fall for Kim while trying to protect her and Brody from whatever is coming next. Suddenly, a couple of teenagers go missing. Their mutilated bodies are found only a mile away. The attacks are so brutal it doesn’t seem humanly possible.
Then another. Could it be a man or a beast?

Finally, the unthinkable: the first human baby is born with similar horrid birth defects as the animals. Ultrasounds show an increasing number of abnormal fetuses with similar defects on the way. Upon delivery, the mothers start getting sick. Extremely sick.

Fearful for her unborn child and family, Kim searches for answers and a safe escape…
if there is anywhere safe.

Strange Nature builds to an uncompromising climax of the terrors affecting a nice, quiet town and possibly future generations everywhere.

BBC and Rook Films announce unique collaboration on Ben Wheatley's latest feature film: Happy New Year, Colin Burstead

Ben Wheatley’s seventh feature film, Happy New Year, Colin Burstead, will be released in a unique partnership with BBC Films, BBC Comedy and BBC Two.

The film, produced by Rooks Films, will have its world premiere in a Main Competition slot at this year’s BFI London Film Festival (October 10-21).

The film centres around Colin Burstead (Neil Maskell) who hires a lavish country manor for his extended family to celebrate New Year.

Unfortunately for Colin his position of power in the family is under serious threat from the arrival of his estranged brother David.
Shot earlier this year the film holds a mirror to the political and social situation of the country and its place in the world.

The film has a fantastic ensemble of UK acting talent - including Wheatley regulars Richard Glover, Peter Ferdinando, Neil Maskell, Mark Monero and Sam Riley along with Asim Chaudhry, Joe Cole, Charles Dance, Alexandra Maria Lara, Doon Mackichan, Sinead Matthews, Bill Paterson and Hayley Squires.

Following LFF, the film will screen around the UK in a limited run of Q&A sessions and festival screenings with Wheatley and the cast and will then have its broadcast premiere on BBC Two over the Christmas holidays and will remain on BBC iPlayer for the following 12 months.

Producer Andy Starke says: “It was an amazing experience making the film with such a talented cast and crew and we are extremely pleased to be able to release the film in a way that makes sense of a very complicated releasing landscape - the BBC is the perfect home for Ben’s state of the nation drama.”

Rose Garnett, Head of BBC Films, says: “When Andy and Ben showed Happy New Year, Colin Burstead to me and Shane Allen (Controller of BBC Comedy) we both fell for it. Funny, acute and very human, it’s a film about families at their worst and best, and a perfect bit of alternative Christmas television. We love that it’s home is the BBC.”

Wheatley is currently writing an extended TV series featuring the same characters for future broadcast.

Acquired by Rose Garnett, Head of BBC Films, Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy and Patrick Holland, Controller of BBC Two.

UK sales agents Goalpost Film have also come on board and are representing the film internationally, presenting it to buyers at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival.

Video Nasty comic book writer Mario Covone set to make feature film directorial debut with Genre shocker OVERTIME

Mario Covone, writer of 2014’s critically acclaimed Reaper Comics horror series, Video Nasty, will make his feature film directorial debut helming horror movie OVERTIME.

OVERTIME centres on a teacher working late into the night at school, seemingly alone. But a presence is watching him from the shadows. Stalked through the winding corridors and trapped within, a sinister secret holds the key to his survival.

No stranger to political subtext within his work, Covone’s movie, which he has also written, explores the real-world issues of violence in schools, and the dangers of media scaremongering, whilst maintaining a traditional horror backdrop with twists and turns aplenty.

The cast and creative team will be revealed soon, as will the poster artwork, being designed by horror industry legend Graham Humphreys. Humphreys also painted the covers for Covone’s Video Nasty comic book run.

After the success of Video Nasty, Britain’s biggest selling independent comic series of all time, Covone set up his production company, Miracle World Productions, which is producing the film, due to start shooting in Jan 2019.

Covone said today: "Comics will always be a passion of mine, both reading and creating. But I feel the urge to test my metal in a new medium, one that I’m equally passionate about”.

Skate Kitchen - New Poster

SKATE KITCHEN, directed by Crystal Moselle, will be released in the UK on 28 September following its upcoming UK premiere at Sundance Film Festival: London on 2 June. Its World premiere was at Sundance Film Festival Utah in January.

This is the narrative debut for Crystal Moselle following her Sundance-winning documentary, The Wolfpack (2015). The film stars the members of a real-life all-girl skate crew based in New York, who caught Crystal Moselle’s attention on social media and inspired the film. Rachelle Vinberg is the lead as Camille, along with fellow newcomers from the crew: Kabrina Adams, Nina Moran, Ardelia Lovelace, Jules Lorenzo and Brenn Lorenzo.   Established names rounding out the cast are Jaden Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Karate Kid) and Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is The New Black).

Introverted 18-year-old skateboarder Camille lives on Long Island with her mother. Though, to her mother’s relief, Camille promises to hang up her board following an injury, the pull to skate proves too strong. She discovers an all-girl subculture of skaters called The Skate Kitchen on Instagram, and she sets out into the city to join them. The rebellious and sexually fluid girls quickly adopt the more naive Camille, featuring her in their stunt videos. For the first time, she feels acceptance and support from other girls. However, she soon learns to her cost, the complexity of their friendship when she befriends a boy from a rival group of skaters.

Hotel Salvation kicks off C4's Indian Film Season

Channel4’s annual Indian film season returns on Monday and Thursday nights this September with a selection of independent films from across the country spanning themes of mortality, forbidden love, the caste system and British Colonial rule.

All but one of the films in the season, which gets underway tonight with indie comedy-drama HOTEL SALVATION, are showing for the first time on free to air British television and the season includes a rarely seen late film from revered filmmaker Satyajit Ray – THE CHESS PLAYERS.

In another first, the films will all be available on catch up via All4 at www.channel4.com

Hotel Salvation [Mon 3 Sept @ 02:10 - network premiere]
(2016) 93 mins PG
Adil Hussain and Lalit Behl star in writer-director Shubhashish Bhutiani's feature debut, a gentle, upbeat indie comedy-drama about family relationships and death. Businessman Rajiv (Hussain) is getting on with his hectic life when his 77-year-old father Daya (Behl) dramatically announces that he's foreseen his own imminent death and wants to seek salvation by passing away in the holy city of Varanasi. Rajiv is thus forced to drop everything and accompany his father on his last journey. In Varanasi, they check into a hospice-hotel that offers free accommodation to those in the final two weeks of their lives. However, Daya's premonition isn't as accurate as he'd thought. As their days in the ancient city by the Ganges stretch into weeks, the two men are given an opportunity to properly get to know each other.

With Geetanjali Kulkarni as Rajiv's wife Lata and Palomi Ghosh as their adult daughter Sunita.

In Hindi with English subtitles.

Sairat [Thu 6 Sept @ 01:30 - network premiere]
(2016) 140 mins
Writer-director-producer Nagraj Manjule’s powerful Marathi drama is a compelling contemporary love story and strong indictment of the caste system. A huge hit in India on its release, the film follows the fortunes of young star-crossed lovers Parshya (Akash Thosar) and Archie (Rinku Rajguru). Parshya is the academically high-achieving son of a fisherman, while Archie’s father Tatya (Suresh Vishwakarma) is a wealthy landlord and politician. The two meet as students at college, fall in love and secretly begin dating. However, when he discovers this, Tatya stops at nothing in his campaign to prevent Archie from spending time with her low-caste boyfriend, including beating him and attempting to frame him for rape. Narrowly escaping a potentially murderous attack, the young couple flee their village by train and escape to the shantytowns of the city. But even there they face adversity at every turn and their naive idea of romance is tested against the harsh realities of the city.

With Tanaji Galgunde and Arbaz Shaikh.

In Marathi with English subtitles.

Masaan [Mon 10 Sept @ 01:55 - network premiere]
(2015) 109 mins
Richa Chadha and Vicky Kaushal star in Neeraj Ghaywan's feature-length directorial debut, a moving drama about two young couples in the holy city of Varanasi. The film begins with Devi (Chadha) and her student boyfriend Piyush (Saurabh Chadhary) secretly meeting at a hotel, where they tentatively have sex for the first time. Their tryst is violently interrupted by thuggish local police inspector Mishra (Bhagwan Tiwari), who uses their compromising position to blackmail the lovers. But his actions will have profound consequences for Piyush and Devi, and also for her academic-turned-stallholder father Vidyadhar (Sanjay Mishra) and Jhonta (Nikhil Sahni), the cheeky young lad who helps run his stall on the banks of the Ganges. Meanwhile, engineering student Deepak (Kaushal), who comes from the lower-caste Dom community (who traditionally tend the funeral pyres on the Ganges' ghats), finds himself on a similarly fateful path when he meets and falls in love with Shaalu (Shweta Tripathi), a beautiful middle-class woman from a much higher caste. Masaan won the Un Certain Regard Avenir prize and a Fipresci prize at Cannes 2015. In Hindi with English subtitles.

Ankhon Dekhi [Thu 13 Sept @ 01:30 - network premiere]
(2014) 93 mins unclassified
The season continues with Ankhon Dekhi (With My Own Eyes), writer-director-actor Rajat Kapoor’s comedy-drama. Rajesh (Sanjay Mishra), a travel agent in his late 50s whom everyone calls Bauji, heads a large middle-class family who live cramped together in a small terraced apartment in old Delhi. One fateful day, after hearing his daughter Rita (Maya Sarao) has a swaggering womaniser of a boyfriend, the family set out to teach the cad a lesson he won’t quickly forget. But Ajju (Namit Das) turns out to be a decent young man. Instantaneously Bauji decides to turn his back on received wisdom and only believe what he sees with his own eyes. This new outlook on life has a mixed impact on his family and friends: to some he’s seen as a guru, while others view him as nothing more than a troublemaker. Whichever he is, Bauji’s new philosophy has many unexpected consequences for those around him - some comical, others less so.

In Hindi with English subtitles.

The Chess Players [Mon 17 Sept - first screening on Channel 4]
(1977) 108 mins PG
Satyajit Ray's only film in Urdu is a drama set in 1856, during the British Raj, which paints a subtle portrait of the decadent world of the nawabs, where pleasure-seeking takes precedence over the fate of the region or its ruler. Little does Nawab Wajid Ali Shah (Amjad Khan) know he will be the last independent ruler of the kingdom of Awadh. It’s the eve of the 1857 Rebellion and Britain’s General Outram (Richard Attenborough) is plotting to annex the nawab's lands to extend the power of the Empire through the East India Company. Amidst intrigue and political manoeuvring, noblemen Mir Roshan Ali (Saeed Jaffrey) and Mirza Sajjad Ali (Sanjeev Kumar) shirk their duties to their families and their nawab, instead spending their days and nights playing chess. While Mirza's wife Khurshid (Shabana Azmi) tries desperately to persuade her husband to stop playing this wretched game and spend time with her, Mir's wife Nafisa (Farida Jalal) is happy to see her husband preoccupied, as it enables her lover to visit her without fear.

In Urdu with English subtitles.
