TRAILER: Song Without A Name - Theatrical Release Date Announced

Song Without a Name (Canción Sin Nombre) is set in Peru in 1988. The country is in the grip of a devastating political crisis. Georgina, a young woman from the Andes, has her newborn daughter stolen, after giving birth at a fake health clinic. The desperate search for her baby leads her to Pedro, a young and tenacious investigative journalist who will stop at nothing to get to the truth.

Based on a true story, Song Without a Name, nominated for the prestigious Golden Camera at last year's Cannes Film Festival, is a bruisingly evocative and almost unbearably moving first feature film from León. Evocatively filmed in stark black and white, it features a poignant performance from newcomer Pamela Mendoza as the beleaguered mother, with Tommy Párraga beautifully measured as the journalist hitting endless Kafkaesque dead ends, as he burrows into the corruption and strife of a country in turmoil.

As well as being a searing examination of the inequities of class, and the dehumanizing effects of politics, Song Without a Name is also a nerve-wracking race against time, with Georgina and Pedro on a seemingly futile search for the stolen child. Audiences who relished the Costa Gravas classic Missing, or the Oscar-winning Spotlight, about the power of journalism to uncover unpalatable truths, and Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, will find themselves haunted and enthralled by this assured, resonant masterwork.

SONG WITHOUT A NAME WILL BE RELEASED 30th OCTOBER

We Are Many returns to UK cinemas

Acclaimed Documentary We Are Many will be hitting UK cinemas again on September 21st to coincide with its virtual US and Canadian Premiere. This date was chosen to support the UN’s International Day of Peace, something that resonates strongly with the films messaging, especially in this tumultuous year.

From the creators of the recently released Coup 53, We Are Many explores the never-before-told story from the largest demonstration in human history, where up to 30 million people many of whom had never demonstrated before, came out in nearly 800 cities around the world to protest against the impending Iraq War. The worldwide event which was organised by a small group of activists had a profound effect on many people, including some we see leading todays protest movements.

Fearless and thought-provoking this documentary is as timely today as when it was first filmed. The film will be showing in a host of cinemas around the country and the virtual event will also include a special Q&A after the screening, featuring leading activists and cast members.

In the US and Canada, the film will be premiered on the evening by a variety of ‘virtual hosts’ who include local venues and organizations, all who benefit from ticket sales.

The live stream will begin at 1am but for those who are unable to join at that time they will have the opportunity to watch the stream for another 48 hours after.

Details for the cinema screenings and how to buy tickets can be found at: https://www.wearemany.com/screenings-uk/

ANTRUM - Official UK Trailer - In UK Cinemas October 23rd

Antrum, a feature length film shot in the late 1970's, is said to be cursed. In 1988, a movie theatre in Budapest that was screening the film burnt to the ground, killing the 56 people who were in attendance. This incident follows the inexplicable deaths of a number of film festival programmers that had received Antrum as a submission and died shortly after watching it. These events have created a belief that watching Antrum will kill you.

Believed to have been lost, a sole copy of the film was tracked down and packaged for public release. After a short 10 minute documentary which examines the dark history of the film, viewers are given the opportunity to watch the original version of this cursed film at their own risk.

The film features a teenage girl and her young brother putting their dog to sleep for a violent act it committed. In an effort to save its soul, they enter a forest that contains “The Antrum”, the very spot that the devil landed when he was cast out of heaven. There they begin to dig towards hell, and the deeper they dig the more dangerous the forest becomes. It has been observed that at this point in the film more malevolent events start happening to the audience watching it.

As a journalist has observed, “ANTRUM’s reputation is partially due to additional real-world events that took place as the actual film was being shown. When ANTRUM screened at Fanta Fest in Rome, the organisers brought in a priest to bless the theater.”

Antrum will be in UK Cinemas from 23rd October and DVD & Digital Download from 26th October

BBC Two to air feature-length film Finding Jack Charlton

BBC Two has today confirmed it will air Finding Jack Charlton, a feature length documentary filmed during the last 18 months of the late sporting hero’s life.

The film, which is produced by Noah Media Group (Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager, The Edge, Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans) and a co-commission with Virgin Media Ireland, will have a cinematic release later this year and will air on BBC Two in 2021.

Directed by Gabriel Clarke (Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager; Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans) and Pete Thomas (Take His Legs), Finding Jack Charlton is a portrait of an extraordinary man: an English World Cup-winning legend, who became an Irish hero. Shot on location in Ireland and England, the film also details Jack’s previously undocumented life with dementia. This contemporary narrative forms a central theme of the story, offering an intimate, compelling insight into Jack the man and the challenge faced by thousands of families universally.

The documentary features key characters from throughout Jack’s career, with contributions from Jack’s family for the first time, including his wife Pat and son John. They are supported by major figures in football, music, film and politics, enabling the exploration of the major pillars of Jack’s life: Jack and England, Jack and Ireland, and Jack and his brother, Sir Bobby Charlton.

Significantly, Jack’s family have given access to detailed, hand-written notes that Jack made and kept safe throughout his career. These personal thoughts are an intimate window into Jack’s managerial philosophy and offer a new level of understanding into Finding Jack.

Multiple sources of revealing, unseen archive footage have also been uncovered, captured behind the scenes with Jack and the Ireland team during the World Cup in 1990 and on the road to their qualification for the 1994 World Cup in the USA.

Patrick Holland, Controller BBC Two, says: “I am so delighted that this documentary will be coming to BBC Two. Jack Charlton was a giant of a man, a footballer of legendary achievements and a manager who helped transform a nation. This is a very special film, giving intimate access to Jack and his family in his last year, exploring the journey and impact of his extraordinary life.”

Co-directors, Gabriel Clarke and Pete Thomas, say: “Jack Charlton led a fascinating life on so many levels and his achievement in football is unique. To be able to tell his story against the background of the final year of his life, when he faced perhaps his greatest challenge, enabled us to frame his incredible career from a whole new perspective. It was a privilege to work with his family and to make a film that became so much more than we expected”

Channel 4 Indian Film Season 2020

Channel 4’s annual Indian film season returns on 7th September, with nine films in nine weeks featuring a range of the best contemporary Indian cinema and one classic from the archive.

Curated by longstanding season consultant and Indian cinema expert Nasreen Kabir, the annual Indian film season is the longest running strand in Channel4’s history, running over 30 years.

This year’s season spans drama, thriller, social realism, independent and mainstream Indian cinema exploring class, racial, political and gender divide.

After kicking off with the wildly chaotic action thriller JALLIKATTU on Film4 channel, the season continues on Channel 4 and All 4. Eight of the nine films are network premieres, and four films from the season will be available for Catch up viewing on All 4 following their transmission.

2020 Season Details

Channel 4’s annual Indian film season launches on 7th September on Film4 with Lijo Jose Pellissery’s deranged horror-tinted thriller JALLIKATTU (2019, Network Premiere) where on one eventful night in a remote village in Kerala a buffalo escapes from the slaughterhouse and wreaks havoc. Bedlam follows as the entire village decides to join in hunting down the animal. During the wildly chaotic chase, many unresolved differences come to the surface, turning friends into foes. It’s an intense ride in which ultimately man's bestiality ends up vividly on display.

Next up Ranveer Singh, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, headlines celebrated female director Zoya Akhtar’s hip-hop drama GULLY BOY (2019, Network Premiere). Poet Murad emerges from the slums of Dharavi and breaks free from the class divide when he inadvertently enters Mumbai’s underground hip-hop scene to become the voice of the streets. A story inspired by India’s real-life rappers Naezy and Divine.

We return to the south with a tender film from India’s emerging queer cinema, writer/director Swarnavel Eswaran’s KATTUMARAM (CATAMANRAN) (2019, Network Premiere). Following the devastation brought by the Tsunami, a young woman defies expectations of her local fishing community as she develops a relationship with a photographer who has come to teach at the local school.

Back to the city, Jonathan Augustin’s feelgood coming-of-age drama THE LIFT BOY (2019, Network Premiere) is a gentle heart-warming window into the world of a lower middle-class Mumbai family as a down on his luck student must take the place of his father as a lift operator in a luxury apartment block.

In tribute to the celebrated actor/playwright Girish Karnad who passed away in 2019, MANTHAN (1976) is possibly the only film ever to be sponsored by Indian farmers.  Produced courtesy of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation the film follows the progress of a team who set out to start a milk co-op in rural Gujarat, an honourable crusade that stirs up violent caste clashes along the way. Director Shyam Benegal delivers a powerful social realist drama.

Continuing the rural village setting and based on real-life events, ARTICLE 15 (2019, Network Premiere) is director Anubhav Sinha's uncompromising crime drama named after an article in India's constitution which makes discrimination a criminal offence. The film tackles head-on the controversial subjects of caste, institutionalized corruption and abuse when a city cop sent to a small village becomes involved in a disturbing investigation into the death of two lower caste young women.

National as opposed to social divide is highlighted in RAAZI (2019, Network Premiere), a gripping thriller telling the true story of an Indian female spy who risked everything to go undercover in the lead-up to 1971's Indo-Pakistani war. A critical and box office hit, the film won five prizes at India's annual Filmfare Awards, including awards for actress Alia Bhatt and female director Meghna Gulzar.

The season concludes with two gentler films featuring remarkable performances from their young leads. Marathi drama NAAL (2019, Network Premiere), follows Chiatanya, a cheeky and lively eight-year-old boy living on the banks of a river in a rural village in Maharashtra, cared for by his landlord father and long-suffering mother. But after an uncle visits from a nearby village and reveals to the young boy that he is adopted, Chiatanya’s world is changed forever and he becomes obsessed by meeting the birth mother he has never known.

Finally, Aijaz Khan's HAMID (2019, Network Premiere) is a sensitive story of redemption set against the backdrop of the political unrest and conflict in Kashmir. After eight-year-old Hamid's father goes missing, the young boy finds himself increasingly isolated, rejected by his grief-stricken mother. Forced to seek answers for himself, after he discovers that 786 is 'God's number', Hamid dials these digits into a phone and finds unexpected solace from a soldier fighting insurgents on the frontline in Kashmir.

Toxic Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space - Trailer

Many around the world are currently under lock down due to the pandemic, however, for one film making team from Australia, nothing could be further from the truth. Melbourne is currently under stage 4 restrictions, which are some of the strictest in the world but that hasn’t stopped David Black and Gerard Chierchia, who are making a feature film called “Toxic Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space.” Instead of being locked in, they’ve reached out across the world.

The latest teaser for the sci-fi/ horror comedy film, Toxic Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space has just gone live.

Filmed around the world by the actors themselves, according to Black’s scripts and Chierchia’s shot lists, this is a film that satirises the major events of 2020.

Toxic Alien Zombie Babes from Outer Space is a comedic sci-fi/ horror film that pays homage to the great B grade cult movies of the 50's - 70's, while covering a number of the strange issues that have come up during this pandemic year.
