Synopsis:
Action adventure written and directed by Phil Volken and starring Eion Bailey, Barkhad Abdi and Danny Glover. Kevin Riley (Bailey) and his family go to the Caribbean for a holiday but after Kevin indulges his son's sense of adventure by sailing out to a remote and uninhabited island they are left stranded when their boat malfunctions.

They are eventually spotted by a passing fisherman who comes ashore to help them, but when the man demands payment from Kevin in return for his rescue things spiral out of control. Kevin must find a way to either pay the man the huge sum of money or otherwise rescue his family before time runs out.

Nick Broomfield's WHITNEY 'Can I Be Me' - First Trailer

From award-wining director Nick Broomfield (Biggie and Tupac, Kurt & Courtney) co-directed with Rudi Dolezal, a veteran of music videos and documentaries, Dogwoof presents WHITNEY ‘CAN I BE ME’, a stunning, revealing portrait of one of the greatest performers of the past century, Whitney Houston.

Using previously unseen footage cut with exclusive live recordings, WHITNEY ‘Can I Be Me’ traces the life and career of Whitney Houston from her early life in New Jersey singing in the church choir, to her record label signing and meteoric rise to fame, through her phenomenal successes as a recording artist and actor to her tragic death at just 48. WHITNEY 'Can I Be Me' will be released in cinemas on 16th June, with the premiere and a live performance from Michelle John taking place on 11th June at Sheffield Doc/Fest and being broadcast into cinemas nationwide, supported by the BFI Audience Fund, awarding funds from the National Lottery.

UK release date announced for Aisling Walsh’s MAUDIE

Based on a true story, MAUDIE, set in mid-century Nova Scotia, is directed by Aisling Walsh (TV's Fingersmith) and stars Oscar nominees, Sally Hawkins (Paddington, Happy-Go-Lucky) and Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, Before Midnight).

The film charts the unlikely romance between Maud Lewis (Hawkins), an increasingly popular folk artist, and the curmudgeonly reclusive fish peddler, Everett (Hawke).

Bright-eyed and intelligent, though crippled by arthritis, Maud yearns to be independent and to live away from her cold and oppressive family. She finds an escape when she answers Everett's ad for a housekeeper.

To Everett's consternation, Maud turns out to be terrible at housework, preoccupied as she is with painting every corner of his tiny shack with flowers, birds and butterflies. As her art blossoms into a burgeoning career, so too it brings Maud and Everett closer together in ways they never imagined.

MAUDIE is released in the UK on 4 August through Sony Pictures Releasing (UK). It made its world debut at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival before screening at Berlin earlier this year.

Cat's Eyes singer / songwriter Rachel Zeffira turns to crime for latest project

Rachel Zeffira, the talented, award-winning Canadian soprano, famous for her work as one-half of alt-pop duo ‘Cat's Eyes’, has composed a number of songs for director Simon Rumley’s historical gangster thriller feature film ONCE UPON A TIME IN LONDON, which is currently shooting in the East End. Rachel also appears in the movie as a singer in a 1940’s’ club band, which includes Sam Doyle from ‘The Maccabees’ on drums, Faris Badwan from ‘The Horrors’ on trumpet; and Sam Becker from ‘Wunderground’ on bass.

Zeffira commented: “Simon sent me the script for ‘Once Upon A Time In London’ which referenced music from the 1940s. He mentioned a few songs from that era, nostalgia ones like ‘I'll be Seeing You’ and a few songs by Kurt Weill. When I was around 16 I used to love those songs, and I remembered that I'd written a few in a similar style at the time, that could possibly be useful now. I tracked down a couple of the rough recordings and sent them to Simon, and he thought they'd be right for the film.

She added “Our original choice for trumpet player, Chris Cotter, couldn't make it, so I asked Faris if he could step in. Faris is 6 foot 6, has quite a distinct look which definitely isn't 1940s, and he doesn't play trumpet. Until being on set, I've only ever seen Faris look like he's the singer from The Horrors...so it's testament to the talent of the hair and costume designers that they actually managed to make him look like a 40's jazz musician”.

Director and co-writer Simon Rumley said: "Having been a fan of The Horrors for a while I was excited to check out Cat's Eyes. I went to their seminal gig at the Scala and have been a fan of Rachel and her music ever since. We were hoping to collaborate on a previous film of mine which didn't happen so when ‘Once Upon A Time In London’ came along, Rachel was the only person I thought of to sing in the Modernaires Club”.

Stacey Solomon and performing arts charity Chickenshed present a nationwide karaoke bus tour

3 May 2017, London – Illumination, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and performing arts charity Chickenshed are proud to announce a spectacular nationwide karaoke bus tour to mark the release of this year’s biggest animation, SING, which is available on Digital HD, Blu-ray™ and DVD from 22nd May.

The wheels of this year’s most entertaining singing initiative will be set in motion when the SING karaoke bus drives into London on Sunday 21 May with singer and TV presenter Stacey Solomon, and parks up at Westfield London. The bus will then embark on a nationwide tour with further stops in Bristol (22 May), Birmingham (23 May) and Manchester (24 May).

Visitors to the bus will have the opportunity to sing along to any of 42 hit tracks from the film, win spot prizes or a private recording session, and learn more about how Chickenshed uses the performing arts to help young people fulfil their potential. Those at the Westfield London launch could also be in with the chance to sing along with Stacey herself!

TV host and singer Stacey Solomon said, “From karaoke queens to wannabe pop stars, I can’t wait to meet everyone at the SING karaoke bus tour! My kids and I absolutely love the film and to collaborate on this wonderful campaign for such an amazing cause is just fantastic. 50th Anniversary 4K Restoration of The Graduate

One of the most beloved American films of all time, THE GRADUATE is 50 this year, and STUDIOCANAL are very proud to be celebrating this anniversary with a cinema release of a pristine new 4K restoration including a 2 week run at the BFI Southbank from 23rd June as part of their Dustin Hoffman season.  This will be followed by a brand new Special Edition DVD, Blu-Ray and EST release on 24th July.

A complete sensation on its original release in 1967, THE GRADUATE was a one-of-a-kind cinematic portrait of America which captured the mood of disaffected youth seething beneath the laid-back exterior of 1960s California. It earned Mike Nichols a Best Director Oscar, introduced the music of Simon & Garfunkel to a wider audience and featured one of the most famous seductions in movie history and a truly iconic final scene. THE GRADUATE also introduced the world to a young actor named Dustin Hoffman, perfectly cast as the jaw-droppingly naïve Benjamin.

Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) has just finished college and is already lost in a sea of confusion as he wonders what to do with his life. He returns to his parents’ luxurious Beverly Hills home, where he idles away the summer floating in the pool and brooding in silence.  He is rescued from the boredom when he is seduced into a clandestine affair with a middle-aged married friend of his parents, Mrs Robinson (Anne Bancroft). That liaison is soon complicated by Benjamin’s infatuation with her college-age daughter Elaine (Katharine Ross).

Visually imaginative and impeccably acted, with a witty, endlessly quotable script by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry (based on the novel by Charles Webb), with a supporting cast that includes William Daniels, Murray Hamilton, Walter Brooke and Elizabeth Wilson, THE GRADUATE had the kind of cultural impact that comes along only once in a generation.

This 50th Anniversary 4K restoration was created from the 35mm original camera negative by the Criterion Collection. The colour timing was done by referencing a previous colour grading that had been supervised by Grover Crisp at Sony Pictures and approved by director Mike Nichols. The 5.1 surround-sound remix, approved by the director, was created from the 35mm magnetic tracks and the original soundtrack recordings at Chace Audio.
