Eulogy is a dark comedy about the deeply dysfunctional Collins family, who reunite in Rhode Island following the death of family patriarch Edmund Collins (Rip Torn). His granddaughter Kate Collins (Zooey Deschanel) is given the unenviable task of delivering his eulogy, but finding something positive to say about her grandfather proves difficult as old grievances and long-hidden family secrets begin to surface.
Kate's father, Daniel Collins (Hank Azaria), is a failed actor who secretly works in pornography, while her mother, Lucy Collins (Kelly Preston), arrives with her partner Judy Arnolds (Famke Janssen). Lucy's relationship infuriates her intensely controlling sister Alice Collins (Debra Winger), whose own troubled family life adds to the mounting chaos. Kate's uncle Skip Collins (Ray Romano) brings his family along, including his obnoxious young twin sons, while the family's matriarch, Grandma Collins (Piper Laurie), struggles to cope with the increasingly volatile situation.
Amid the arguments, revelations and bizarre behaviour, Kate also finds herself confronting unresolved feelings for her former boyfriend Ryan Carmichael (Jesse Bradford). As the family prepares to say goodbye to Edmund, the funeral becomes an explosive gathering in which buried resentments, uncomfortable truths and complicated relationships are impossible to keep hidden.
