Dangerous Animals is the latest shark horror to get a UK and Ireland home release, this time from Vertigo Releasing. Directed by Sean Byrne, best known for The Loved Ones and The Devil's Candy, the film made its debut at the Directors' Fortnight at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it earned strong reactions from critics and audiences. It stars Jai Courtney, Hassie Harrison and Josh Heuston as a group caught in a terrifying survival scenario in open water.
The story centres on Zephyr, a defiant young surfer who is kidnapped by a serial killer with a twisted obsession with sharks. Held captive on his boat, stranded at sea, she's forced to plot an escape as the killer prepares to carry out a ritualistic feeding to the circling predators below. Vertigo will release Dangerous Animals on digital platforms from 25 July, with a physical release set for 8 September, including DVD, Blu-ray and 4K HDR editions complete with exclusive extras.
