PREVIEW: First look at Sky Original film ‘Nuremberg’, starring Russell Crowe, Rami Malek and Michael Shannon

By Jon Donnis

Ahead of the 80th anniversary of the Nuremberg trials, Sky will release Nuremberg in UK cinemas on 14 November 2025. Directed and written by James Vanderbilt, the film is based on the book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist by Jack El-Hai. A short teaser trailer, just forty seconds long, has revealed the first footage of Russell Crowe's portrayal of Hermann Göring.

Set in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War, the film explores the early stages of the Nuremberg trials. Rather than focusing solely on courtroom scenes, the story centres on the psychological and moral tensions between Göring and the American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, played by Rami Malek. Kelley's role is to assess whether the captured Nazi leaders are mentally fit to stand trial. His most complex case is Göring, who is charismatic, strategic and aware of the limited power he still holds through his words.

The cast also includes Michael Shannon, Richard E. Grant and Leo Woodall. Woodall plays Howard Triest, a young translator who speaks German and operates within this emotionally and politically charged space. While his role in the trailer is subtle, his presence is a reminder of the cultural and personal stakes involved in the process. Other cast members include John Slattery, Mark O'Brien, Colin Hanks, Lydia Peckham, Wrenn Schmidt, Lotte Verbeek and Andreas Pietschmann.

Sky's Head of Original Film, Andrew Orr, described Nuremberg as "a bold and important project" and praised its relevance and scale. The film is a Sky Original, produced by Walden Media, Bluestone Entertainment and Mythology Entertainment. Global rights are represented by WME Independent. The producing team includes Richard Saperstein, Bradley J. Fischer, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan, Cherilyn Hawrysh, István Major and George Freeman. Executive producers include Jack El-Hai, Brooke Saperstein, Annie Saperstein, Beau Turpin, W. Porter Payne, Jr., Paul Neinstein, Géza Deme and Tamás Hajnal.

Following its UK cinema release in November, Nuremberg will arrive on Sky Cinema in January 2026.
