Synopsis:
Danish historical drama written and directed by Martin Zandvliet. After Germany's surrender in May 1945 signals the end of World War II, a group of young German prisoners are handed over to Danish sergeant Carl Leopold Rasmussen (Roland Moller) to clear the Danish coastline of thousands of live landmines.

Promising them that they will be free to return home once the job is done, Rasmussen quickly sends the boys out onto the beaches to begin their dangerous assignment. However, as the group's inexperience starts to show, Carl soon finds himself forming a strong bond with his young charges as they attempt to carry on with their daunting task.

In post-World War II Denmark, a group of young German POWs are forced to clear a beach of thousands of land mines under the watch of a Danish Sergeant who slowly learns to appreciate their plight.

Land of Mine - New Trailer - in cinemas August 4

Inspired by real events, and nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2017 Academy Awards, LAND OF MINE follows the little-known story of the young German prisoners of war who were handed over to Danish authorities in the days following Germany’s surrender in May 1945.

Tough veteran Sergeant Carl Rasmussen is assigned by Lieutenant Ebbe Jensen to diffuse and remove two million mines on the Danish West Coast to keep the beaches safe. He takes advantage of the teenage POW’s, ordering them to dig up the mines from the sand with their bare hands.

Rasmussen promises their freedom and release back to Germany when the task is completed; and after initial hostility he slowly begins to sympathise with their plight. However, Jensen remains resentful of their former occupiers - and steadfast in his belief the young men should be treated with contempt - bringing him head to head with Rasmussen in a final showdown.

Directed by Martin Zandvliet and starring Roland Møller and Mikkel Følsgaard, LAND OF MINE offers a deeply powerful, emotionally resonant account of a forgotten chapter in recent history, and a timely reminder of the power of forgiveness
