Official trailer for The Boss Baby starring Alec Baldwin

DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby. He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby. The Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby's arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim. With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks' The Boss Baby is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages.

Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy's House - New Poster and Trailer

Gurinder Chadha’s VICEROY’S HOUSE will be released in UK cinemas on 3rd March 2017.   The film tells the true story of the final months of British rule in India and its release will coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the Independence of India and the founding of Pakistan.

Pathe is today launching the very first trailer and poster in support of the film’s release.

The British cast is led by Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Paddington) as Lord Mountbatten; Gillian Anderson (The X Files, The Fall) as his wife, Lady Mountbatten; Lily Travers (Kingsman) as their daughter, Pamela; and Sir Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, Quartet) and Simon Callow (A Room With A View, Four Weddings and a Funeral) as key civil servants.

The Indian and Pakistani cast is led by Manish Dayal (The Hundred Foot Journey), Huma Qureshi (Gangs of Wasseypur) and Om Puri (The Hundred Foot Journey, East Is East).  The roles of the principal political leaders are played by Tanveer Ghani (Nehru), Denzil Smith (Jinnah) and Neeraj Kabi (Gandhi).

It is a story that is deeply personal to Gurinder, whose own family was caught up in the tragic events that unfolded as the Raj came to an end.

Viceroy’s House in Delhi was the home of the British rulers of India. After 300 years, that rule was coming to an end.  For 6 months in 1947, Lord Mountbatten, great grandson of Queen Victoria, assumed the post of the last Viceroy, charged with handing India back to its people.

The film’s story unfolds within that great House.  Upstairs lived Mountbatten together with his wife and daughter; downstairs lived their 500 Hindu, Muslim and Sikh servants.  As the political elite - Nehru, Jinnah and Gandhi - converged on the House to wrangle over the birth of independent India, conflict erupted.  A decision was taken to divide the country and create a new Muslim homeland: Pakistan.  It was a decision whose consequences reverberate to this day.

The film examines these events through the prism of a marriage - that of Dickie and Edwina Mountbatten - and a romance - that between a young Hindu servant, Jeet, and his intended Muslim bride, Aalia.  The young lovers find themselves caught up in the seismic end of Empire, in conflict with the Mountbattens and with their own communities, but never ever giving up hope.

VICEROY'S HOUSE is a film that is both epic and intimate, with an inspirational message that celebrates tolerance. Many of the events depicted are either unknown or forgotten, but all have strong contemporary relevance in terms of lessons to be learnt concerning the politics of division and fear, the origins of religious extremism, and our moral responsibility towards migrants fleeing violence for a better life.

VICEROY’S HOUSE is directed by Gurinder Chadha (Bend it like Beckham) with a screenplay by Gurinder Chadha, Paul Mayeda Berges and Moira Buffini, and is produced by Deepak Nayar (Bend it like Beckham, The End of Violence, Buena Vista Social Club), Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges.  The film is executive produced by Pathé’s Cameron McCracken, Reliance’s Shibasish Sarkar, BBC Films' Christine Langan, the BFI’s Natascha Wharton and Ingenious Media’s Tim O’Shea.

The film is a Pathé, Reliance, BBC Films, Ingenious and BFI presentation of a Bend It Films/Deepak Nayar Production in association with the FilmVast and Filmgate Films.

VICEROY’S HOUSE opens on 3 March 2017
Running time:  1hr 46 mins

Star Wars: Made GREAT in Britain – Gareth Edwards

LONDON. 9th December 2016. The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm and the UK Government’s GREAT Britain campaign announce a collaboration on the first Star-Wars standalone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which celebrates the British expertise, creativity and innovation involved in the Star Wars saga.

The collaboration centres around a short film, featuring British Director Gareth Edwards, and celebrates almost forty years of GREAT British filmmaking. This marks the second phase of the Star Wars: Made GREAT in Britain campaign that launched last year in association with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the UK’s biggest film of all time. The campaign, which also features fellow Briton and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Felicity Jones in an Industry Trust IP awareness film, reveals the unique stories behind the nation’s contribution to Star Wars both in front of and behind the camera.

Almost forty years ago the incredible story between Great Britain and Star Wars began with the production of Star Wars: A New Hope at Elstree Studios which saw the start of the global phenomenon. The story continues with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was filmed in the UK using some truly GREAT British stars including Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Warwick Davis and Director Gareth Edwards, further celebrating home-grown talent.

The film will be launched exclusively online – and will be supported with short form videos and images that will run during the week of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s release.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Director Gareth Edwards said:
“It’s pretty phenomenal, the influence we’ve had on global culture. We really punch above our weight.

“The great thing about British crews is they’ve been doing this for generations. There’s something magical about Great Britain. There are so many great examples of British filmmakers, people like Hitchcock and David Lean; even people from outside the UK, like Kubrick, he ended up making Britain his home because the crews were so good.”

Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt Hon Karen Bradley MP said:
"The creative industries are one of the UK’s greatest success stories, contributing a staggering £84billion a year to our economy and supporting 1.9million jobs. The UK film industry plays a central part in that success, producing an impressive roster of talent both on screen and behind the camera.

"I am delighted that one of Britain’s most enduring film franchises has partnered up with the GREAT Britain campaign once again, showing the Force continues to be strong in film.”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will open in UK cinemas on Thursday December 15, 2016.

Trouble is not far away however, as Molly's new-found fame attracts the attention of bungling criminal Simon Nockman (Dominic Monaghan), who attempts to steal the magic book to use as part of his latest robbery scheme. The cast also includes Emily Watson, Joan Collins and Omid Djalili.

London 4 December 2016 – Leading lights from the world of Film and TV gathered last night at the TriForce Short Film Festival 2016 to support diversity across the industry.

Stars including David Gyasi, Jermain Jackman and Game of Thrones’ Josef Altin walked the red carpet at the festival’s gala event at BAFTA where writer Haley Bishop and director Alasdair MacKay’s Glow was awarded the prestigious Best of the Fest prize.

The event marks five years since the TriForce Short Film Festival was launched with a focus on recognising and supporting emerging diverse talent. Hundreds of entries were submitted to a panel of judges including Nicholas Pinnock, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Shiver’s Alex Gardiner with the final sixteen screened across the day to an audience of peers and key industry representatives.

The festival culminated in the star studded gala where the final four films were screened and the winners of the Best of the Fest Award, the Audience Choice Award and the inaugural Best Non Scripted Award, were announced. All of the winners were rewarded with career development prizes provided by Stefan Allesch Taylor CBE, Shiver and Sharp House,  as well as cash prizes. Other partners this year included BFI, Creative Skillset, Directors UK, Shine Media and Broadcast.

The Best Non Scripted Award was won by BAFTA nominated Victoria Thomas for I Believe in Pink. Thomas won a £500 cash prize as well as the opportunity to meet with Shiver MD Alexander Gardiner following the festival for advice and guidance on their career.

Fraser Ayres, CEO of TriForce Creative Network, says: “The Triforce Short Film Festival was set up to encourage film makers from any background and it’s great to see that, as in previous years, we’ve been able to showcase high-quality work from such a diverse range of UK filmmaking talent.

Selecting the winners is always difficult when you have incredible work to choose from, but this year’s stood out for telling important stories in such a compelling way.”

The Audience Choice Award, voted by the audience on the night went to The Dead Sea, a story of two refugees trying to reach Europe by boat.  Emmanuel and Olu nearly reach the safety of shore before being returned to Libya and incarcerated in an infamous detention camp.

The Audience Choice Award winner took home a £250 cash prize as well as a chance to pitch to Ian Sharp, CEO of Sharp House and the Sharp House team for advice and support on their next project.

Cats on film

A furry caper for all the family, NINE LIVES takes audiences on a journey of self-discovery, and reminds us all who and what really matters just in time for the Christmas season. With an award-winning cast, impressive CGI animation, and feline wit, cat lovers and dog lovers alike will be sure to enjoy this hilarious and heart-warming tale of redemption.

To celebrate the release of the film on digital download from 10th December and Blu-ray and DVD from 12th December, we take a look at some of the most purrfect felines to have landed paws-first on the silver screen.

Mr. Fuzzypants (Nine Lives)
Kevin Spacey plays billionaire businessman Tom Brand; a man who has lost touch with those dearest to him. When an accident sees him magically trapped in the body of his daughter’s new cat, Mr. Fuzzypants, Brand must find a way to reconnect with his family. However, adjusting to his new body is not as easy as it seems and Brand finds himself in a series of hilarious predicaments as he tries desperately to communicate his true identity to his family. In his new role as the family cat, Brand realises how far he’s drifted from his family and offers him an unprecedented opportunity to fix it.

Bagheera (The Jungle Book)
Mowgli’s wise and intelligent guardian, Bagheera, represents all the best traits of cats. Most widely recognisable from Disney’s 1967 animated version and recently re-imagined as CGI in the 2016 live action remake, Bagheera was voiced by Sebastian Cabot and Ben Kingsley respectively. Acting as guide and protector for Mowgli, the infant human child he rescues and helps raise, Bagheera decides that Mowgli is grown enough to return to live with humans, arguing  that the forest is not a place for human children and that Mowgli will be better off among his own kind. However, the young Mowgli refuses to listen despite the growing danger he puts himself in by choosing to stay. The Disney classic has captured the hearts of audiences the world over, and Bagheera has served as a guide and protector for not only Mowgli, but the young audiences who fell in love with the film.

Top Cat (Top Cat: The Movie)
The star of a 1960s television series and 2011 film, Top Cat is the leader of a group of alley cats whose main adversary is the local cop who continually tries to evict them. A cat-lovers caper, the film takes audiences along on Top Cat’s adventures as he and his friends combat the Police Chief’s nefarious attempts to frame Top Cat for stealing money from an orphanage. When Top Cat is falsely accused and sent to the Dog Jail by the corrupt new chief of police, Officer Dibble discovers the trickery and reveals it to Top Cat’s gang of alley cats who plan a daring jailbreak rescue.

Jonesy (Alien)
Acting as the ship’s pest control and the crew’s companion, Jonesy is the fluffy Ginger Tom that proves cats really do have nine lives, as he is one of the few characters to survive the horror film Alien. Played by real-life cats, the film franchise’s directors and animal trainers had to come up with creative ways to coax the right reactions out of the cats during filming. In one instance they had the cat react to a German Shepherd in place of the alien when they needed the cat to spit and hiss. Jonesy has become more widely referenced over time, with various appearances across video games including Halo, Aliens: Colonel Marines, and World of Warcraft. Jonesy adds some heart to the cult classic film and has grown to become something of a cultural icon.

The Aristocats
A Disney classic film set in the 1920s, the animated adventure follows a family of aristocratic cats kidnapped by their owner’s butler in the hope of stealing the fortune they are meant to inherit. After being abandoned in the countryside, the family of cats begin to journey home with the aid of an alley cat named Thomas O’Malley, who offers to guide them to Paris. Along the way they meet O’Malley’s friend Scat Cat, the trumpet playing leader of a feline jazz band. The aristocats find their way home, but are intercepted by the butler once again who attempts to ship them off to Timbuktu. O’Malley manages to rescue them and is then adopted into the family by Madame Adelaide. This feline family adventure is a fun adventure through jazz-era Paris.

Puss in Boots (Shrek)
Everyone’s favourite feline trickster, Puss in Boots is rooted in an old Italian fairy tale about a low born cat who uses trickery and wit to gain power and wealth.  Popularised by the animated film franchise Shrek, Puss offers his aid to Shrek as he pursues his true love, Fiona, against the forces that seek to tear the two apart.  The character of Puss is most recently voiced by Chris Miller in the Dreamworks animation production Puss in Boots, a prequel spin-off of Shrek. The character has captured the imagination of many artists since the tale was first written and has been re-imagined in numerous books, films, and television series across multiple languages over the decades.

Garfield
Originating from a 1970s American comic strip, Garfield has become a well-known cultural icon. Notorious for being a lazy, coffee-drinking, well-fed house cat who hates Mondays, he made his silver screen debut in the 2004 CGI adventure Garfield: The Movie. The film adapts many of the comic strip characters and follows Garfield as he struggles to adjust to new houseguest and stray dog, Odie, whom he cannot stand. When Odie gains fame at a dog-show competition, Garfield reacts out of jealousy and locks Odie out of the house causing him to run away. But when Garfield discovers Odie has been kidnapped, he puts aside his dislike for the dog and sets out on a rescue mission. The well-loved and widely syndicated comic strip is still running today.

Louisa Connolly - Burnham to star in Hereford's horror TORMENTED

London - December 2, 2016
Prolific UK indie Hereford Films has announced its first project for 2017 – TORMENTED – and the first in a slate of American-set genre movies.

Written and directed by Adam Stephen Kelly (Done In, Kill Kane), TORMENTED is a supernatural horror film centred around teenager Ashley Loren, who – in the aftermath of a tragic car accident – is haunted by nightmares of her dead sister, and must uncover her town's dark past in the hope of vanquishing the malevolent spirit that terrorises her from beyond the grave.

Hereford Films CEO Jonathan Sothcott commented: “The glut of horror films released weekly to home entertainment platforms makes standing out from the crowd a particular challenge, and over-saturation of inferior product is going to be an increasing problem but our model for these genre films at Hereford mixes the best elements of Hammer and Blumhouse. Unashamedly populist, high-concept and modestly budgeted horror films that will not only stand out in the market, but haunt audiences' imaginations long after the end credits. With one of the best genre scripts I've ever read, I want Tormented to be the first in a slate of horror pictures that can go toe-to-toe with modern genre classics such as The Purge and The Babadook.”

Hereford Films is currently closing finance and is near to signing off a multi-territory distribution deal with an international distributor. No sales agent has been appointed as of yet.

Executive producers include Damien Morley and Nick Aldrich.

Writer and director Kelly said: “With a supernatural twist and a thrilling edge, Tormented deals with the very real, very scary phenomenon known as sleep paralysis while also taking inspiration from an incredibly dark chapter in American history. The response to the script has been fantastic and I'm so excited to have the interest of so many talented actors, not to mention Louisa Connolly-Burnham in the lead role who is a fantastic talent.”

Casting is currently underway with rising star Louisa Connolly-Burnham (Wolfblood) in the lead role: “I'm thrilled to be a part of Tormented. Despite many sleepless nights, horror has always been one of my favourite genres and I'm so excited to finally be on the other side of the scares! I've personally experienced sleep paralysis and it's absolutely terrifying – the script definitely brings that aspect out.”

Hereford Films' 2017 slate also includes genre films Aura, Pentagram, Dracula: New Blood and We Still Die the Old Way, plus family films Pride and Prejudice and Ollie.

Tackling Social Issues

Every few years we see a film that tackles the social issues of that generation, from sexism and gender norms to LGBT issues. It can be hard to really comprehend what discrimination, poverty or suffering are like when it doesn’t affect you personally. The journey a film takes you on can immerse you into a world you’ve never experienced help you empathise with people you’ve never met, and even inspire social change.

To celebrate the release of compelling British drama The Pass, which is in cinemas across the UK from 9th December, we are taking a look at the films that have used their platform to take on social issues.

THE PASS is the story of three very different nights over 10 years in the life of a Premier League Footballer. Jason (Russell Tovey) is at the beginning of his career, and on the night before his first big international match he and long-time friend and team-mate Ade (Arinze Kene) share a hotel room, trying to beat the inevitable pre-match tensions with locker-room banter and teenage high-jinks. Out of nowhere Jason kisses Ade. The emotional repercussions of this pass, and the decisions that follow on and off the pitch, have a major impact on every aspect of the public and private lives of both men across the next decade, in a sporting world where image is everything.

Starring Russell Tovey, Arinzé Kene, Nico Mirallegro and Lisa McGrillis, The Pass comes to cinemas December 9th.

The Imitation Game
The Imitation Game stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Kiera Knightley, and follows the tale of the famous computer scientist Alan Turing. Turing ingeniously cracked the Nazi Enigma code and is credited for shortening the Second World War by at least 2 years. The father of theoretical computer science was charged with ‘Gross Indecency’ for ‘Homosexual Acts’ which were criminalized at the time – the result was inhumane chemical therapy and the heartbreaking passing of Turing as he took his own life. After the films outstanding reception, a campaign to pardon 49,000 gay men convicted under the same law as Turing was launched, gathering support from human rights campaigners and celebrities alike.

Made In Dagenham
To this day, equal pay is still an issue, though far better than it was in the 1960s, and this is (in part) due to a brilliant group of women from Dagenham. Made in Dagenham is based on the true story of a group of female Ford sewing machinists who fought back against sexual discrimination and walked out of the factory in protest. The women made car seat covers and as stock ran out the strike eventually resulted in a halt to all car production, and sparked major law reform – the Equal Pay Act of 1970! The hugely successful screenplay made the transition to the stages of the West End with former bond girl Gemma Arterton cast as the lead.

Billy Elliot
Its 1984, the scene is County Durham, the miners are striking and Billy wants to be a professional dancer, but is subjected to the negative stereotype of the male ballet dancer. Billy Elliot charged at the issue of gender-norms head on, and showed that ballet isn’t just for girls (obviously) as the scruffy 11 year old is accepted by the Royal Ballet School. Evoking laughter and tears, the film has become a family favourite and even found its way to the West End.

The Pass
Tom Daley, Nicola Adams, Steven Davies – all at the top of their respective sporting fields and openly gay. With over 72 teams in the English Football League, not one single player is openly gay. Not one. The Pass challenges this, starring Russell Tovey and Arinzé Kene as two up-and-coming footballers who share a kiss, a kiss that reverberates through the next 10 years of their lives. The Pass homes in on queer themes like gay repression and ‘coming out’, and although the film isn’t just a gay story, the lack of openly gay professional footballers is tackled head on.

THE PASS IS IN CINEMAS DECEMBER 9
